Wild Pink + Why Bonnie

  • Museum of the Mississippi Delta 1608 U.S. 82 Greenwood, Mississippi, 38930 United States (map)

Two New York bands. One Delta museum. One night only.

Hush Puppy Music Coop has been trying to book Wild Pink for over a year. It's not easy to get a nationally touring indie band to route through Greenwood—there are bigger markets and bigger paydays within a few hours' drive. But on Thursday, March 11, 2027, Wild Pink and Why Bonnie are stopping here, with their full bands, behind a new album. This is one of the biggest shows Hush Puppy has ever put together, and it's happening in a room that only holds 100 people.

Wild Pink is the project of John Ross, a Florida-born songwriter now based in New York. Over six albums, Ross has built a reputation as one of the most thoughtful and quietly ambitious voices in indie rock—a writer who moves between intimate folk and full-band, arena-ready rock without ever losing the thread of the song. His influences run deep: Nirvana, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Hornsby. His sixth album, Still Coming Down, is a louder, more direct, full-band statement, recorded in one week in Asheville with collaborators including MJ Lenderman.

Why Bonnie is the project of Blair Howerton, a Texas-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist now based in Brooklyn. What started as a solo effort has grown into a full band, taking the intimacy of those early songs and expanding them into something bigger, stranger, and more textured. Their sound sits somewhere between shoegaze and Americana, with a pop sensibility that keeps the songs from drifting too far into atmosphere. If you love Waxahatchee, Wednesday, Soccer Mommy, or Lucinda Williams, you'll find something to hold onto here.
