The Legend of Tush Hog

Great mystery surrounds this shack, as it is possibly the home where blues legend Robert Johnson died.

When Johnson was poisoned, he was taken to Tush Hog's place on the Star of the West Plantation. This flat was originally located on that very plantation and is appropriately named for the man who was with Johnson when he died of strychnine poisoning.

Steve LaVere always contended that Johnson died in that farmland west of the church in the Riverbend, land that Billy Whittington farmed for a while. Steve read that Johnson frequented the tenant house of a man called Tush Hog. One old black woman remembered the owner sending some men to get a casket for a blues musician who had died.

We use the Tush Hog shack to connect that reference and make it fun to suppose, though we really doubt that's where he died. Either way, it's a connection to one of the greatest mysteries in blues history.
